This is my second blog on reviewing online survey websites and this time I will be doing a review of the Opinion World surveys.
About Opinion World
Who can join?
Registration is free but it is only open to anyone that is a resident of the following countries:
- Hong Kong,
- New Zealand,
- South Korea,
- The United Kingdom and
- The United States.
Still, the list is reasonably long and I hope that most of you will qualify.
Each person is restricted to one account. This is quite standard when compared to most survey sites. What is interesting here is that they allow two members per household to join. Meaning 2 accounts (each with different email address) per IP address. Another interesting thing is that the site allows teenagers aged below 18 to apply but only through their parents. I find this strange and was not aware of this rule until I did my research for this article. Definitely, do not recall this when I first sign up. It is a plus point.
How do you join?
The application is relatively simple. First, go to the site and then to its “Join Now” panel. Enter your name, gender, and email address before clicking on submit. Next, they will send you an email where you will need to activate the registration. Once done, you would have been confirmed. It is that simple. Please note that you can also join via your Facebook or Google account.
Next, comes the tedious part again of doing up your profile. I find this quite irritating but it is a necessary evil. To soften the blow, Opinion World will give you 50 points when you complete them the first time. Normally, you do it once upon registration and maybe a yearly update after that. The update is easier as you only need to amend new info while skipping the rest.
How does it work?
There are three ways for you to make money here.
The first of course is by completing surveys. How this goes is as follows. An email will be sent to your registered email address whenever you have any survey assigned to you. Within it, you just have to click on an URL and you will be brought directly to the survey. Please note that the survey invite will show you the info on the estimated time that you will take to do the survey, and the number of points, the number of quarterly draw entry and number of charity donation that you will receive upon completion of the survey.
As you complete surveys, you will accumulate points. Each survey will generally take between 5 to 30 minutes. The longer it takes, it normally means that you will get more points. The time taken is actually up to you. Do not be pressured into completing a survey within the set amount of time. Where possible, you should try to complete all surveys that have been assigned to you. Please note that there is no expiry date for the points, which means that it will stay with you as long as you do not quit the panel.
You can potentially make money via a lucky draw. You will get an entry to their quarterly prize draw for each completed survey, screen out notice, quota full message or when you update your profile upon request. Basically, each time you react to their email notification, you get an entry.
Now for another bummer. This prize draw is not available to all, only to those of you who are residents of following countries:
- Argentina (3,750 ARS prize per quarter),
- Belgium (€1,000),
- China (¥5,000),
- France (€2,000),
- Germany (€2,000),
- India (25,000 INR),
- Japan (¥62,500),
- Mexico (12,500 MXN),
- New Zealand (NZ$2,000),
- Singapore ($1,250 SGD),
- South Korea ($1,250 USD),
- Switzerland (1,250 CHF),
- Taiwan ($1,250 USD), and
- The United Kingdom (£5,000 GBP).
Lastly, you can also make some money through the award of bonus points for reaching specific milestones. You will be awarded badges for each milestone that you reached. I attach details of this in the screen captures below:
How does it pay?
Once you achieve the required minimum of 500 points from the surveys and badges that you collected, you can request to withdraw this. You will have a few options here.
- Exchange this for cash through PayPal. In my case, 500 points are the equivalent of SGD$15 or about USD$11.30.
- Exchange the points for more entries into the quarterly prize draw. Only do this if you are a gambling person. Are you?
- Exchange points for Amazon gift cards. You will need a minimum amount of 400 points before you can do the redemption. The 400 points are the equivalent of USD$10.00.
- Exchange the points for e-voucher or physical gift voucher from a few popular merchants of your country of residence.
As for the prize draw, they will make arrangement to transfer the winnings to you separately.
Also, for every survey you completed, they will also arrange for to make a donation to a worthy cause on your behalf. You also have a choice to donate to any one of the charities as shown in the attached screen capture. However, recently, it seems that you can only donate to one. Regardless, you are still doing a good deed. I urge you to donate everytime you complete a survey.
Weaknesses of this survey site
I will now balance up this review by providing you with some perceived weaknesses of this survey:
- They are only available to residents of 32 countries.
- Their prize draws are only open to residents of 14 countries.
- I do not receive lots of surveys. On the average, I will get about 3 to 4 per month. However, I need to qualify that this may not apply to you as your profile is different from mine.
- Be prepared for possible barren periods. In 2017, there was a period of 3 months where I did not receive any surveys. Nothing whatsoever. Again, I qualify by saying that it may not be applicable to you due to your different profile.
Strengths of this survey site
They provide you with three different types of opportunities to earn money, namely through the surveys, lucky draws and bonus points. Another point that is easily overlooked. Sometimes, if you have not completed a survey and you closed the browser, the survey site will still save it for you in the dashboard for you to do later. But I presume that this is only provided if it does not exceed the deadline. You just need to click on the file under Survey Opportunities to continue with the survey.
Tips and strategies to help you earn more from Opinion World surveys
For this survey, the only advice that I can give you is to complete all surveys that you get. And you should also open their emails and click on the associated links regularly so as to increase your chances of winning the quarterly draw.
Alternately, you can work as a team and get another member of your household to sign up. This may help to double your earnings.
Please note that all the advice that I provided for my review on Valued Opinions survey site with the exception of applying for only one account also applies here.
I can confirm that Opinion World is indeed a legitimate site to earn money. You may not earn much but you should include it as part of a set that you do so that your earnings are more substantial. I do recommend it. You may click here to visit the site. On more thing, if you need any help, there have a section within the site for you to submit your questions. Please see below:
